HOW "CONQUER OLYMPUS" CAME TO LIFE
The journey begins in the high school, at our beloved 2nd Gymnasium in Maribor, where the creators of this game first crossed paths. After high school, we lost touch for a while, but in 2020, as we were all leading our grown-up lives, we reconnected. Through our gatherings, our passion for board games was ignited, and soon, that passion grew into something more. This is the story of summer evenings on the terrace, where Žiga and I tested the first mechanics on an improvised map of Greece, drawn on a piece of cardboard.
The core idea was to create something that everyone could play, not just enthusiasts of complex games. So, the beginning of the game had to be just that: open in every direction, yet simple at its heart. Soon, Greece moved from cardboard to a whiteboard. But something was still missing—a real, beautifully designed map of Greece as the playing board. By then, through rigorous testing, we had already done a lot of tweaking, removing, changing, and adding elements along the way.
As summer turned to autumn, Sara joined our journey. With her creativity, she brought Greece to life like something out of a fairy tale. Suddenly, all the stories of monsters, cities, and gods found their visual form she gave life to the game. One of the first major changes was the introduction of NEKTAR and collecting it became a core mechanic. Another key addition was the "Bee Messages" cards. Here, players owe a special thanks to Ajda, since she was very clear during the testing period, what was boring, confusing, or simply didn’t work. At the same time, she showed excitement when changes made the game more fun. It goes without saying that without the incredible women on our team, this game wouldn’t exist, and I wouldn’t be writing this today.
In 2023, Žiga and I presented our game idea at the START-UP weekend in Maribor, where we received recognition as one of the top five ideas. Now, in 2025, we are finally introducing our game in its final form. The game has been with us through our sunny days and stormy ones, and with just a little imagination, it can bring also you and your friends mythical evenings filled with laughter, genuine connection, and endless fun.
